John A. "Jay" Anderson

John A. \"Jay\" Anderson, 93, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010.

He was born in Athens on Aug. 10, 1917. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Emma Anderson, and several brothers and sisters. His 38 years of service at Combustion Engineering ended when he retired in 1979. His many interest and hobbies included being an avid golfer, who shot his age many times. He holds the distinction of having shot six holes-in-one.

He was a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church and was a charter member and treasurer of the Fellowship Class. He was also a member of Rivermont and Creeks Bend Golf Courses, loved Tennessee football and basketball, as well as anything else Tennessee. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Helen M. Anderson; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard \"Andy\" and Candice Anderson; one daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Steve Taylor; three grandchildren and one spouse, Dr. Stephanie and Chris Allen of Athens, Ga., and Lindsay and Ben Taylor of Soddy-Daisy; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Natalie and Noah Allen of Athens, Ga.; three sisters, Anna Kay Patton of Athens, Catherine Lane of Chattanooga, and Imogene Kyker of Athens; one brother, Roy Anderson of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

All of who knew and loved Jay will miss him greatly, but will be better people because of him.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Red Bank United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating.

The Fellowship Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Bank United Methodist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.
