Lucinda Walden Philyaw, 83, of Ten Mile, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

She was a native of Meigs County, former resident of Alpharetta, Ga., and had been a resident of Meigs County most of her life.

She was a daughter of the late Arlen and Ada Massengill Walden and was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Felton Philyaw on Dec. 31, 1999, and sister, Bessie Mae Walden on Nov. 24, 2003.

She was a former employee of Fulton County School System in Fulton County, Ga., and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Tony Walden Philyaw, and sister, Johnnie Walden, both of Ten Mile.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Couch officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bob West, Bill Gates, Andy Houston, Bob Reed, Marlin Walden, and Trendell Walden.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
