Chief Dragging Canoe program presented to DAR
Local historian Joe Guy was the guest at the May meeting of the Alexander Keith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He spoke on the life and times of Dragging Canoe, a Cherokee war chief. Dragging Canoe was a cousin to Nancy Ward and one of the greatest warriors of Cherokee recorded history, Guy said. He was the primary leading force in the Cherokee's resistance to white settlement on Cherokee lands. He died in 1792. During his presentation, Guy showed items similar to what Dragging Canoe would have used. |
