Ex-jailer arrested On charge of sexual contact with inmate

A former McMinn County corrections officer was indicted this week on a felony charge of having sexual contact with an inmate.
Justin Swafford turned himself in to authorities at the McMinn County Justice Center Thursday afternoon after the Grand Jury's indictment was released to the Sheriff's Department.

Road remains open
No action was taken Thursday night by the McMinn County Commission on a proposal to take County Road 971 off the county maintenance list.
Niota's commissioners won't be changing jobs
NIOTA - Niota's commissioners will remain where they are despite an effort to shuffle their responsibilities.
In the final minutes of Monday night's regular City Commission meeting, as other commissioners were looking at a calendar to set a budget work session, Sanitation Commissioner Richard Rutledge introduced the idea of moving all sitting commissioners except himself to different departments.
McMinn graduates on Saturday
The McMinn County High School Class of 2012 will see approximately 350 graduating seniors cross the stage and receive their diplomas on Saturday.
The commencement ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, in the high school gymnasium. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
